F - Amy Koranek
I have been working in polymer clay since 1989. When I found the stuff, I just fell in love with it. I gave up most other art forms just to have more time in clay. Since then, I've been blessed with a steady stream of customers and jobs to keep me supporting my polymer clay habits.
My letter "F" was done with just a couple of different simple techniques. The background canvas was coated with Translucent Liquid Sculpey that was tinted opaque black. Using a squirt bottle, I layered stripes of silver tinted TLS over the black. Then I just dragged a needle tool back and forth through the liquids to make the marbling effect.
For the letter itself, I sectioned the letter into several different blocks of White Sculpey Ultralight. I pressed the patterns into each section using one of Polyform's rubber mats. Using Ancient Page stamp pads, I added color to each textured piece just on the raised areas. Then I back filled the crevices with more black TLS. The letter sections were adhered to the pre-baked background with TLS.
