Orchid Pastel, and Wisteria)
3” x 5” piece of matboard
Aitoh’s Asian Screwpunch (or you may use a Dremel Tool to drill holes)
3” x 5” pieces of paper for inner pages
Directions:
Covers of the book:
- Paint canvas board in color of choice and let dry completely.
- Using Olive Pastel stamp pad, ink the script stamp completely and stamp
on the dried canvas board.
- Using Orchid Pastel, ink the shadow stamps and place where desired.
- Using Wisteria, ink the clock stamps and place where desired.
- Using Wisteria, ink the letter stamps and stamp FAMILY LIFE or another
message of your choice.
- Set canvas board aside.
-
Using a metal ruler and a utility knife (or a mat cutter if you have one),
cut the matboard to the 3” x 5” size.
-
When canvas board is totally dry, mark where the holes are to be drilled. We
used a .5” spacing. Start in the middle and work toward both ends.
- Using the canvas board holes as a guide, use a needle tool and mark the
mat board and the paper. Drill the mat board and the paper sheets.
-
Since the matboard is too thick to “set” your eyelets, use
Super Glue Gel (carefully) to hold the eyelets in place.
- Glue the washi paper inside the canvas board. Re-punch holes after dry.
Polymer Clay Embellishment for cover:
- Roll sheets (we used a #4 pasta machine setting) of the Pearl, Translucent,
and Purple clay. Stack these with the purple in the middle.
- Roll the stacked sheet through the pasta machine on a #1 setting. Cut
in half and stack (in the same sequence of colors) again. Roll this new stack
through
on the #1 setting again.
- Trim your stacked sheet of clay and lay it Pearl side up.
- Mist the Judi-Kins cube stamp with water, and then press the desired
motif firmly into the clay stack. You want a deep impression.
- Remove the stamp. Now, here is the fun part. Go into the Mokume Gane
Technique under Techniques in the Projects section. You can find it at http://www.sculpey.com/Projects/projects_MokumeganeTech.htm.
- Lay the stamped sheet onto a ceramic tile or glass sheet so that it adheres.
Take your Super Slicer and proceed according to the pictures and steps
outlined by Barbara McGuire. Shave carefully and slowly!!! Watch your fingers!!!!!
- When your flower motif is shaved so that the top is smooth and the variety
of colors are showing, use your pointed craft knife and trim the flower
out as is shown on the example. Bake at 275 degrees F for 35 minutes in an oven
that has been calibrated by using an oven thermometer. Let cool.
Assembling the book:
- Align
the book with the content pages between the two covers. Check your
orientation and alignment.
-
Take a strand of mizuhiki cord and begin “sewing” the book together.
Leave at least a 3” tail. Work from bottom to top.
- Then, work back from top to bottom. This will create an X pattern along
the spine. When you reach the bottom, tie a strong knot. Then feed the remainder
of the cord under the binding, and trim again at the top.
- You are finished!
