I love to embellish my scrapbook pages with rubber stamped
polymer clay accents. Stamps tend to take on a whole
new life when they’re
pressed into clay, and I adore the look and feel of these three
dimensional accents on my layouts. Depending on clay colors and
inks, you can create a wide range of interesting looks from just
one rubber stamp. And because polymer clay is so forgiving, you
don’t have to limit yourself to using deeply etched,
bold imagery. For the scrapbook layout seen here, I used
a finely detailed
rubber stamp from Impression
Obsession to create page accents with
real impact.
Experiment with
using the same stamp on different colors of clay, or try combining
different
ink colors on light colored clay. I love
using richly colored pigment inks on Sculpey clay. To avoid smearing,
don’t touch the image until after it’s been cured by
baking. So grab an ink pad, your favorite stamp and Sculpey, and
let’s make an impression!

Materials and Tools:
- Premo! Sculpey clay in White 5001 or Pearl 5101.
- Rubber stamps of your choice. I used H4361 Shell Cube by Impression
Obsession.
- Rubber stamping ink. I used ColorBox inks by Clearsnap.
- Craft Knife
- Pasta machine, acrylic brayer, or rolling pin dedicated to polymer
clay.
- Optional: Sculpey Glaze Satin or Gloss
Directions:
- Condition
clay and roll out to about 1/16th inch thickness.
-
Ink
stamp well and press firmly into the clay. Don’t
rock the stamp or the image may smear. I usually create more
impressions than
I’ll need, saving the extras for use in another project.
- Using
a craft knife, carefully trim around the edges of the impression.
(If you find that the drag of the knife pulls
the image out of shape, bake the clay first and then trim.)
- Place
the pieces on a baking tray and bake at 275 degrees F for
20 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool. If the pieces
are
not flat after baking, place a ceramic tile or heavy book on top
of the warm clay until it cools.
- Use glue
dots or pop dots to adhere accent to your scrapbook page.
