Directions:
-
Using
the Fairytale castle design (download here) from the actual
mold as my inspiration for the clock base, I drew out a whimsical
castle design and cut
it out with the super slicer. Print out and enlarge,
reduce to your personal tastes and to match the clockworks
that are purchased.
- Also using the super slicer, I cut slices to represent stone indentations
in the clay both horizontal and vertical.
- Using the do-nut cutter, lightly score the area where the clock
face will be.

- With a drinking straw make a hole in the center of the small circle
for the clock works. Enlarge if necessary by moving the straw in
a circular motion. Test the hole size before baking. (Note: if
necessary, the hole may be drilled after baking.)

- Begin molding the numbers with the conditioned lilac pearl clay.
The new molds do not need any powder or release agent, so the clay
may be placed directly into the mold. Make the numbers and place
in a circle in the appropriate positions.

- Begin molding and adding stars to the clock.

- Mix together some green and white clay for the frog. Place two small
white balls of clay in the mold where the eyes go and then press
in the green clay for the body. Press gold clay in for the crown.
Unmold.

- Mold the purple dinosaur. Using a toothpick, press seed beads into
the characters for the eyes. This is a personal choice. You may
also use small balls of black clay. Press the frog and dinosaur
onto the clock.

- Using the red Granitex, roll a skinny snake and press onto the bottom
edges of the turrets. Place another snake around the inner circle
of the clock. With a stylus, make indentions in the snakes.

- Mold the unicorn and place at the top, middle turret as if peeking
out. Put some TLS on the piece and press to the raw clay for extra
stability when baking.

- Place in a
calibrated oven and bake according to manufacturer’s
instructions: Use an external oven thermometer and adjust dial up
or down to reach a steady temperature of 275 degrees F. If using
a toaster oven, preheat for at least 20 minutes and set initially
at 225 (toaster ovens spike and run hot). Then calibrate using the
oven thermometer. Bake for about 20-25 minutes (rule of thumb is
15 minutes per ¼” of thickness for Sculpey III and
Sculpey). Let cool completely. Brush on a light coat of Sculpey
Glaze if desired.
- Following package directions on the clock works, attach the workings
to your cooled clock. Add a AA battery and your clock is ready to
display. Place in a sturdy easel and watch time fly!
