Christmas Nativity Set - Part 3

Animals:

Animal Body Color & size Head Color & Size Legs Neck Eyes
Camels ½ block of Tan rolled into a rounded pear shape 5/8” ball of Tan rolled into a teardrop shape 1” long. Four 1.25” balls of Tan clay rolled into teardrop shapes 2” long. 5/8” log of Tan. E-Beads
Sheep 5/8” ball of white clay 3/8” ball of white clay; ears are ¼” ball of white clay rolled into worm shape 3/8” long with pointed ends. Four 3/8” balls of white clay rolled into teardrop shapes 5/8” long. N/A Black Seed beads
Cow 1.25” ball of chocolate rolled into a teardrop shape 1.75” long 1” ball of chocolate rolled into a teardrop shape 1” long; ears are two ¼” balls of chocolate clay rolled into teardrop shapes 3/8” long. Flatten to 1/8” thick. Four ½” balls of chocolate clay rolled into teardrop shapes 1” long. N/A E-Beads
Pig ½” ball of Super Sculpey rolled into an oval shape 3/8” ball of Super Sculpey rolled into a oval shape Four 3/8” balls of Super Sculpey rolled into teardrop shapes 5/8” long. N/A Black Seed Beads
Donkey 1.25” ball of gray clay (mixed from equal parts of black and white) rolled into a teardrop shape 1.75” long. 5/8” ball of grey rolled into a teardrop shape 1” long Four ½” balls of grey rolled into teardrop shapes 1” long. N/A E-Beads

Basic Instructions for Animals:

Camels

  • Legs: Press four legs together and trim 3/8” off the pointed ends of the legs. Press a flat toothpick into the top of the legs, leaving 1/3 exposed.
  • Body: Roll ½ cube of tan clay into a rounded pear shape. Press gently onto the tray to flatten the bottom slightly. Press onto the exposed toothpick at the top of the legs.
  • Neck: Roll a 5/8” log. Cut 1.25” section. Bend into smile shape and press onto the front of the body, letting neck bend upwards. Press a flat toothpick into end of neck leaving ½” exposed.
  • Head: Roll a 5/8” ball of tan into a teardrop shape 1” long. Flatten the pointed end slightly. Pinch one side to form the ridge on the face. Insert onto toothpick from neck.
  • Ears: Roll two 3/8” balls of tan clay into a pointed worm shape ½” long. Fold in half letting pointed ends touch. Add to sides of head, just behind strap on forehead.
  • Eyes: Use the end of a round toothpick to add the E-bead eyes and the lines for the eyelashes and mouth. Use round toothpick to add the nostrils. Cut ¼” off of the bottom of the legs.
  • You will make 3 camels.
  • Donkey

There will not be step-by-step photos for remaining animals for technique is similar to camels; proportions and colors are different, and there are no necks.

  • Legs: Press four legs together and cut ¼” off of the top. Press a flat toothpick into the top of the legs leaving ½ exposed.
  • Body: Roll 1.25” ball of grey clay into a teardrop shape 1.75” long. Bend into a crescent shape. Use side of thumb to indent the top of the large end. Pinch sides to shape the hip bones. Press onto legs.
  • Head: Roll the 5/8” ball into a teardrop shape 1” long. Flatten the pointed end slightly. Pinch one side to form the ridge on the face. Use the end of a round toothpick to add the E-bead eyes,and the lines for the eyelashes and mouth. Use the end of a paintbrush to make slight indentations for the nostrils.
  • Ears: Roll two ¼” balls of grey into teardrop shapes 5/8” long. Flatten slightly and pinch the large end together to make a fold. Add ears to sides of head with pointed ends downward.

 

Cow

  • Legs: Press four legs together as for other animals, and cut ¼” off of the top. Press a flat toothpick into the top of the legs, leaving ½ exposed.
  • Body: Roll a 1.25” ball of chocolate clay into a teardrop shape 1.75” long, and bend into a crescent shape. Use side of thumb to indent the top of the large end. Pinch sides to shape the hip bones. Press onto legs.
  • Head: Roll a 1” ball of chocolate into a teardrop shape 1” log. Cut ¼” off of the front of the face. Roll a 3/8” ball of tan clay into an oval. Flatten to 1/8” thick. Use the end of a round toothpick to add the E-bead eyes and the lines for eyelashes and mouth. Press onto exposed toothpick at neck.
  • Ears: Roll two ¼” balls of chocolate clay into teardrop shapes 3/8” log. Flatten to 1/8” thick. Fold in half at the wide end. Add to sides of face with pointed ends downward. Use the end of a paintbrush to make alight indentations for nostrils.
  • Tail: Roll a ¼” log of chocolate. Cut a ¾” piece. Add to back of cow between the hip bones. Roll a 3/8” ball of Chocolate clay into a teardrop shape and add to the end of the tail with the pointed end downward. Use toothpick to add lines to the tail.

 

Sheep

  • Legs: Press four legs together as for other animals, and cut ¼” off the pointed ends. Press a flat toothpick into the top of the legs, leaving ½ exposed.
  • Body: Roll a 5/8” ball of white clay into an oval shape and press onto the legs. Texture sheep with a broken end of toothpick
  • Head: roll a 3/8” ball of white clay into an oval shape. Pinch one side slightly. Use the end of round toothpick to add lines and the seed beads for the eyes.
  • Ears: Roll a ¼” ball of white clay into a worm shape 3/8” long with pointed ends. Bend until ends touch. Add to one side of head and repeat. Place head onto body.

 

Pig

  • Legs: Press four legs together as for other animals, and cut ¼” off the pointed ends. Press toothpick into the top of the legs, leaving ½ exposed.
  • Body: Roll a ½” ball of Super Sculpey into an oval shape. For nose roll a 1/8 “ ball of Super Sculpey into a oval shape, flatten slightly, and press onto center of the head. Use the end of round toothpick to add lines and the seed beads for the eyes, plus nostrils.
  • Ears: Roll two 1/8” balls of Super Sculpey into teardrop shapes and flatten to 1/16” thick. Fold the large end in half and press onto the sides of the head, letting the pointed ends flop over the front. Press head onto the body. Use a dry paintbrush to add blush to the cheeks and ears.
  • Tail: Roll a 1/8” ball of Super Sculpey into a long teardrop shape 3/8” long. Curl and press onto the back end of the pig, letting the entire length stick to the body. Brush lightly with powdered blush.
