Tools: clay blade, clay extruder with the 7 hole disc, paint brush, 1½” circle cutter, 7/8” & 9/16” flower cutter, clay punches—5/16 heart & circle, 3/8 heart, ½” teardrop, 9/16” circle cutter, pasta machine, baking sheet, needle tool, towel or bowl, two craft sticks
Directions:
1. Candy canes, suckers, ribbon candy and peppermint candies
Extrude white and red coils. Candy canes are 4" snakes extruded white and red clay coils. Twist the two colors together. Reduce to 11/64 inches thick. Cut four 1½" pieces and bend over ¼" to make candy canes. Reduce the remaining snake to 1/8" thick and cut into ½" pieces and make coils for your peppermint candies. Ribbon candy is made from a stack of red, white and green, ½" x 1 ½" strips of clay, rolled out at a thickest setting. Cut thin slices from the long side, and work the slices into a zigzag pattern. Suckers are equal (5/16" balls) amounts of yellow & white, green & white, and red & white clay marbled together. Roll into a snake 1/8" thick. Coil into a circle approx 5/8 to 11/16". Push a toothpick into the bottom of each. Bake the clay candies for 10 minutes at 275 degree F. Let cool while you make the other parts of the snow globe.
2. Creating the base of the scene
Make a 1¼" ball of white clay or you can use your scrap clay and cover it with a thin layer of white clay. Working on index card, flatten to make a 2 ¼" domed circle (flat on the bottom only). Press glass vase upside down to make sure your circle fits the opening. You may have to compress the sides to fit. Set aside while you make your characters.

3. Creating the elf
Helpful hint - work white clay first and then the red.
Roll out a sheet of white clay and a sheet of red clay at thickest setting of your pasta machine. Use the circle cutters to create the circles required.
Arms & legs are made by stacking 3 white and 3 - 5/16 circles together and tapering into ¾" long. Body is 2 white and 3 red 9/16" circles stacked together. Flatten into a ½" x ¾" tapered rectangle. Press the legs on the bottom of the wide end of the rectangle. Press the arms on the narrow end.
Boots from green clay make 2 -11/32 balls, rolled into ½" snake. Flatten ¼" of the snake into the toe of the boot. Thin out the end and make a curl at the end. Cut two 9/16" flowers, and pinch the end to make a star. Press on top the ends of the legs. Press on the boots. Cut a 7/8 flower from the green clay. Pinch the ends into points. Drape it over the top of the body for the collar. Cut a 1 ½"circle of green for the skirt around the Elf. Cut a 5/16" circle out of the middle of the circle, cut a slit in the circle and wrap around the body.
Head is a 9/16" ball. Press on to the top of the body.
Hands are a ¼" and a 11/64" ball of beige. Make the larger ball in to a slightly flatten 3/8" cone. Make the smaller ball in to a ¼" cone and press it onto the large cone. Make two. Press onto the arms, with the smaller cone (thumb facing up).
Nose is a 15/64" ball of beige, ears are two 5/16" circles cut from beige rolled out at a medium setting. Set ears aside until you have the hat on.
Hat is a 5/8" ball shaped into a 1" tapered cone, bending the tapered end over to one side. Press on the top of the head.
Hatband is a 3" x ¼" of white clay rolled out on medium setting on pasta machine #3. Wrap the band around the head and hat. Press the ears on the side of the head, making them pointed on the top. Press 2 seed beads in the head for eyes, adding detail to the outside of the eyes. With circle cutter, press half in for mouth and draw half circles at each corner of the mouth. Apply pink chalk or powder blush to the corners. Press jingle bell into the end of the hat. Press a candy cane in one of hands of the elf. Drop a small amount of Liquid Sculpey to the middle of your base. Press the elf in sitting position in the middle of your base. Position the arms over the legs.

4. Creating the penguin
Body is a 9/16" ball of black clay shaped into a ¾" tall cone. Cut two wings from the black clay rolled out at thickest setting of pasta machine with the ½" teardrop. Press on to the side of the cone. Cut a ½" teardrop from white clay rolled out at medium setting of pasta machine #3. Press in the middle of the body between the wings. Roll a 13/32 ball of black in to a tapered cone, turning the end over into a curl. Cut a 3/8" heart of white rolled out at medium setting of pasta machine #3. Press onto the head, with the tip of the heart at the bottom. Press 2 seed beads in to the curved area of the heart. Using the needle tool, add detail lines to the eyes. Make a 1/8" ball of Sweet Potato for the beak, and shape into a ¼" cone. Press between the eyes. Press two holes into the top of the beak. Bow tie is made from blue clay rolled out at a medium setting of pasta machine #3, cut two 5/16" hearts and a ¼´x 1/8" thick snake. Press the hearts where the head and body meet. Add detail with needle tool. Press the snake over the junction of the hearts. Press a candy cane to the front of the penguin and wrap the wings forward over the cane. Cut two 3/8 hearts from Sweet Potato clay rolled out at thickest setting of your pasta machine for the feet. Press the narrow ends of the heart to the bottom of the body. Cut a toothpick in ½ and press ½ into the body of the penguin.

5. Drop a small amount of Liquid Sculpey to the bottom of the penguin. Press the penguin into the base behind the elf. Push your suckers around the elf and along side of the penguin. Press some peppermint candies and candy canes into the base around your characters.
Gently place glass vase over characters to make sure that you can get it over it after it has baked. Do not leave on while baking. Bake the base and characters for 45 minutes at 275 degrees F. Let completely cool. Again set the vase over the base. If need be trim off the edges so that it fits into the opening.
6. Pour the 2 cups of distilled water and ½ Tablespoon of glitter into the glass vase. Place the filled vase in a bowl or over a thick towel. Run a small bead of silicone around the inside edge of the vase. Follow manufactures directions. Gently maneuver the base inside the vase without touching the silicone. Press the base into the silicone, the water may run over a bit. Let the project set for a hour for the silicone to set. Turn vase over to make sure that it is sealed. If you have water leaking, apply a thin layer of silicone, using a craft stick over the complete base. Let set 24 hours before continuing with the project so that the silicone has time to cure.
7. Paint wooden base white. Place a large dot of E6000 glue in the middle of the wooden base. Place the vase in the middle of the wooden base. With a craft stick apply "Freshly Fallen Snow" around the base. Since the vase is flat on what is now the top, spread a mound of "Freshly Fallen Snow" on the flat area. Press in (3) ribbon candy and 3 peppermint candies in to the snow. Remember that the water will magnify the figures.
