Materials Used:

- 8 ½” metal
footed bowl (purchased at Garden Supply or Florist Supply Shops)
- Sculpey Push Mold Summer Floral-#APM20
- Premo Clay - #5101 Pearl (3) packs 2 0z.
- #5053 Burnt Umber ½ pack mixed with ½ pack Pearl
- Flat off white spray paint
- Translucent Liquid Sculpey (referred to as TLS)
- White tacky glue
- Dark brown acrylic paint for wash
- Small paint brushes
- Small mushroom bird
- Garlic press
- Decorators’ Chalks-colors of your choice for flowers (I used pinks, purples,
yellow & greens)
Directions:
Begin by spraying the metal bowl with a coat of the off white spray
paint. Let dry completely. Condition the pearl clay very well.
Begin covering the rim of the bowl first by molding the narrow length
of flowers and using TLS to help adhere the clay to the rim.

Now make 8 large flowers from the mold and place as shown slightly
pressing over the edge of the rim flowers you just applied. Also
use TLS to apply these larger flowers.

(Note: If your bowl is not the same size as mine, simply adjust
the amount of flowers to fit. If there is a gap in between
as shown in
my photo, the bird’s nest will cover this.)
Mold the flowers for the bottom as shown and adhere with more TLS.

Using small paint brushes and the chalks, brush the color onto the
raw clay.

Mix pearl clay and burnt umber together into the garlic press and
run through. This resembles twigs.

Press these together
to form the bird’s nest where the gap
in the flowers is on the bowl. With your thumb, make a rounded center
in the nest for the bird to sit.
 Bake according
to manufacturer’s
instructions. Let cool completely. Mix together one part water
and one part dark brown acrylic paint.
Brush this on the entire bird bath to give an antiquing coat to the
piece. It really brings out the detail of the molded pieces.
If you want a
matte or shiny finish to your bird bath “Flecto
Diamond Wood Finish” is best to use on clay because it contains
UV protection and does not interact with the clay.
If you put a finish on your bird bath, let it dry completely, then
using tacky glue, place your mushroom bird in its nest.
