Materials and Tools:

  • Sculpey Push Mold "My Pets" #APM 07
  • Cookie Cutter- 3 ½"
  • Key Chain
  • (2) Seed Beads for eyes
  • 26 gauge Silver Wire
  • Plastic Sleeve (like for baseball cards)
  • Acrylic roller
  • Toothpick
  • Tacky, white glue
  • Powder or corn starch for mold
  • Premo colors: Cobalt blue hue #5063 Beige #5092 Black #5042 Orange #5033 Sculpey III: Red Hot Red #583 Needle Nose Pliers-for adult use

Directions:

Condition the cobalt blue clay first. This color will be the base of your ID tag. Roll out with the acrylic roller to ¼" thick. Lay aside.

Condition the beige clay for the puppy. Lightly powder the mold and tap out the excess. Condition a tiny ball of the black clay and press it into the mold for the puppy's nose. Now press the beige clay on top of the black and fill in the rest of the puppy mold with the beige. It should be level with the top of the mold. Remove from mold.

Take a toothpick and pick up a seed bead and place in the areas for the puppy's eyes. Twist the toothpick a little bit and it will release easier.

Use a tiny bit of red clay for the collar and a tiny ball of orange for the puppy tag and press into the mold just like you did before. Remove the collar from the mold and wrap around the puppy's neck. Place the puppy in the center of your cookie cutter design and press lightly. Now, using more red clay, mold puppy paws to go around the edges of the cookie cutter. The size and design of cookie cutter you choose will determine the number of paws you will need to make. Mold them the same way you did the puppy and the collar.

Cut a short length of silver wire and bend it in half. Twist the bottom together as shown forming a loop at the top.

Insert the twisted wire into the top of the clay and gently push all the way down until you reach the top of the loop. Be careful not to go through the back of the clay. Bake according to manufacturer's instructions. Let cool completely.

When your ID tag is completely cool, cut the plastic sleeve to fit the back. Use some white glue such as Ultimate Tacky to adhere to the clay. Let dry. Place a school photo with your name, age, address, grade, anything you want and slip it into the plastic sleeve. Let Mom or Dad help you attach the key chain with some needle nose pliers by opening the "o" ring and slipping on the loop at the top of the ID tag. It's ready to go. Hook it on your bookbag or whatever. I even like to wear mine on the belt loop of my jeans.
